Become a Lesson Volunteer

HorseSense is always looking for volunteers to assist participants during their weekly lessons! This is the most abundant role and biggest need in our program. Lesson volunteers are the backbone of our lesson program and we would be unable to provide the lessons that we do without them. Volunteers have the opportunity to work alongside our lovely participants each week as they reach goals and pass milestones. Fill out the Volunteer Request form below to get started!

HorseSense programming operates March through early November, Monday through Thursdays.

Additional Volunteer Opportunities

If lesson volunteering doesn’t seem like the right fit for you OR you want to do even more, check out these other opportunities below!

Volunteer Groups

Businesses, clubs, community organizations, and more are welcome to come and volunteer as a group! HorseSense has partnered with groups like Altra Federal Credit Union, Viterbo University, Great Rivers United Way, Trane, and more. These opportunities must be scheduled in advanced but can take place on week days or a weekend. Groups help with basic facility maintenance projects such as painting, mulching, pasture and stall upkeep, tack cleaning, and more. The to-do list at the farm is never handing and we are grateful for every group that lends a hand! Have a group in mind that may be interested? Send us a message here.

Event Volunteers

HorseSense has two in-person events each year and it takes plenty of volunteer power to make them happen! Volunteers help with everything from sponsorship securement and planning to day of execution and tear down. This is all overseen by one of our staff members and a dedicated board member. If you have a knack for events and love interacting with people, this may be the fit for you!

Get involved
I continue to volunteer and be a part of Horse Sense because of the relationships I have with the riders, staff, and other volunteers. I look forward to building on these relationships each session, and cannot wait to see what the future holds! It is truly rewarding to work with riders each week and watch their progress throughout their time riding and learning about horses.
